Self-employed and CNSS in Morocco

CNSS affiliation is mandatory for every self-employed professional. It opens rights for health coverage and retirement, while representing a cost to factor into your profitability calculation.

Self-employed and CNSS in Morocco

Affiliation and AMO contributions

From your self-employed registration, you must affiliate with CNSS for AMO. Affiliation is done online via RNAE / CNSS procedures according to current channels.

AMO contributions do not follow a simple linear rate on revenue: annual rights are calculated first (50% of revenue for services, 20% for trade), then the flat quarterly AMO schedule applies (decrees of 17 November 2021).

Non-payment exposes you to regularisation, penalties, and temporary loss of social rights. Quarterly minimum: MAD 300 even at zero revenue.

How is your contribution calculated?

CNSS contribution analysis for a Moroccan self-employed professional

Step 1 — Annual rights = percentage of collected revenue (50% services, 20% trade).

Step 2 — Read the AMO schedule to obtain the corresponding flat quarterly contribution.

Step 3 — Quarterly payment on ae.gov.ma / macnss.ma according to displayed deadlines.

Our CNSS calculator automates these steps with official 2025 schedules.

Rights opened and limits of self-employed status

Self-employed professionals benefit from mandatory health insurance (AMO) and retirement rights proportional to contributions paid.

However, the status does not open the same rights as a permanent employee: no unemployment insurance, no paid leave, or enhanced protection for extended absence.

If social protection is important — long mission, family, mortgage project — compare with umbrella company which positions you as a full employee.

CNSS: self-employed vs umbrella

Under umbrella company, WEEPO is your employer: employee (~6.74%) and employer (~21.09%) contributions on gross salary, progressive income tax, Moroccan employment contract.

Total cost differs: self-employed pays fewer charges but has fewer guarantees. Umbrella has management fees but secures your professional path.

Our self-employed vs umbrella comparison and umbrella simulator help quantify the difference on your actual revenue.

CNSS management best practices

Set aside the quarterly contribution from each significant collection — do not wait until the last day.

Check your CNSS notices after each revenue declaration: flat amounts must match the schedule.

If your activity changes (services → trade), the AMO calculation base changes: update your activity code officially.
